The Educational System in Syria

In Syria the educational system is divided into three levels. The first level is the elementary school which is compulsory for children from the age of six until the age of thirteen. The next level is the Intermediate school, it lasts for three years and the final year among them is an important one, because of its exams which determine the future of the student if he is going to an ordinary school, a vocational one or another type according to his grades. The brilliant students go to special school called "Superior Student's School". After passing the third intermediate exams students go to the third level which is the secondary school with its three years. The last year called baccalaureate is the most important year of the entire educational system, because the student's occupation and social position after that depends on it. Pursuant to student's grades in this class, he can go on to the university or some intermediate institutes, which is what most students do. In school students learn a lot of subjects such as; mathematics, Arabic, English and Chemistry among others.
